Los Altos is home to more than 150 stores, boutiques and restaurants in several different shopping districts, including Downtown Los Altos, El Camino Real Corridor, Woodland Plaza, Village Court Shopping Center, Loyola Corners, Foothill Crossing Shopping Center and Rancho Shopping Center. These shopping centers and stores provide visitors the opportunity to find everything they need, from antiques to home accessories, among the historic buildings of Los Altos.
Antiquing is a popular activity in the city, but tourists can also choose to visit one of the area's several art galleries. In addition, on Thursdays between May and September, the Los Altos Farmers’ Market is open. This popular weekday attraction is located on State Street and consists of many vendors selling fresh produce, fish, food, art and more.
There are many of fun activities available in Los Altos. Besides quality shopping, the city is also home to Deer Hallow Farm and the Los Altos History Museum, so that you trip can be educational as well as fun. If you’re in the mood for culture, the city has enough to satisfy your craving, with the Chinese Fine Art Gallery at 334 State St # 104. For those visiting with children, the Whistlestop Playground is a great way to spend time. This unique play park has a train station theme, complete with a replica train for kids to climb and play on. Continue the train theme at Barron Park Garden Railway, where your family can sit and watch the model trains run the impressive tracks from April to November. The railway is located at 748 Kendall in Palo Alto.
Los Altos also hosts several annual events, including the Annual Arts and Wine Festival, a weekend event where you can find artists, crafters and wine tastings. The festival also features an assortment of rides, food and free concerts. Taking place in June, it is a huge event in the Bay Area, so try to visit during this time. Other annual events include the Los Altos Fall Festival in October, the Los Altos Kiwanis Pet Parade after Mother’s Day, the Los Altos Festival of Lights Parade after Thanksgiving and Fine Art in the Park in May.
Other things to do in the area include visiting the Peninsula Symphony or the Redwood Grove nature preserve. You can also try exploring the San Andreas Fault Trail.
