Los Altos: Annual Events

With a rich history and strong artistic and cultural community, Los Altos, California is an ideal spot to hold events. Home to numerous activities and events that will thrill and delight every member of the family, Los Altos annual events attract visitors and residents alike. Many of the events are free and suitable for both children and adults. Taking place every year for the town to enjoy, these events include the popular farmers’ market that is held on a seasonal basis and a variety of holiday-themed festivities. Here’s a look at some of the best:

Yearly Los Altos, CA Events

Los Altos Fall Festival

Generally occurring during an October weekend, this autumn event includes, entertainment, things for children to do, a classic car show, a selection of microbrews and wine and approximately 150 booths for arts and crafts. The festival takes place in the North Parking Plaza between Edith Avenue and State Street, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. 

Los Altos Farmers’ Market

This popular, seasonal market provides community members with a place to buy just-picked, local fruits and vegetables, as well as fresh eggs, fish, flowers, plants, bakery items and unique foods. The market takes place every Thursday, from 4 to 8 p.m. The market is seasonal however, and is only held from May to September.

Friday Movie Nights

This event is extremely popular with families, who love seeing an outdoor movie in downtown Los Altos at the intersection of Main Street and 3rd Street. Pre-movie entertainment includes a bouncy house for kids, a face painter, balloons and food and drinks. The movies take place in August and begin at 8:30 p.m. They are free to attend, but it is recommended that you show up before the movie. Seating is available at 6 p.m.

Los Altos Kiwanis Pet Parade

This local tradition dates back to 1948 and celebrates Los Altos' heritage. Attracting thousands of people every year, the parade includes children and their pets, marching bands, classic cars and more. It’s usually held the Saturday following Mother’s Day.

Los Altos Festival of Lights Parade

This lovely holiday tradition takes place the Sunday after Thanksgiving at the intersection of Main and State streets. There are floats, thousands of lights, marching bands and entertainment. The parade caps off with Santa Claus.

Fine Art in the Park

This Rotary Club sponsored event features over 200 artists and vendors, with all proceeds benefitting local community service agencies and supporting international development programs. This May event includes food, drinks, live entertainment and much more. As one of the Bay Area’s premier open-air art shows, this event allows you the opportunity to acquire great art from local artists. Whether you come for the art or the cause, you can’t go wrong.

The Los Altos Wine and Arts Festival

This highly rated two-day event is traditionally held the second weekend of July and is one of the biggest Bay Area happenings during this time of year. It showcases amazing art and exotic foods, while featuring the best wines of the region. There’s also a Family FunZone and live music.
